    What Is NearVision CK?

    Last updated 1 month ago

NearVision CK, or conductive keratoplasty, is similar to a laser eye surgery in that it reshapes the cornea to improve vision. However, unlike LASIK surgery and other laser eye surgeries, NearVision CK uses low-level radiofrequency energy instead of lasers. Also, there is no blade involved with NearVision CK, making it an extremely safe procedure. Talk to your ophthalmologist about whether this eye surgery is right for you, and keep reading for an overview of the procedure and its benefits.

    Benefits
With NearVision CK, patients with farsightedness and presbyopia can enjoy restored vision. Presbyopia is a condition associated with aging, and reduces the sufferer’s ability to focus on nearby objects. If you find yourself holding books further away from your face, you likely have presbyopia. NearVision CK can fix this problem; it is non-invasive and involves little to no discomfort. Also, the procedure takes just a few minutes to perform and involves very little recovery time.

    Candidates
Talk to your ophthalmologist about whether you’re a good candidate for NearVision CK. You could be a good candidate if you’re at least 40 years old and use reading glasses. Ideally, you should have healthy vision overall, with the exception of your presbyopia. This procedure is best performed on someone who has not previously undergone any other refractive eye surgeries.

    Techniques
To perform the procedure, the ophthalmologist applies a local anesthetic to eliminate any discomfort and uses an extremely thin probe to transmit radiofrequency energy to your eye. The energy beam reshapes the cornea to improve the eye’s ability to focus. Unlike laser eye surgeries, no eye tissue is cut or removed during NearVision CK. Many people enjoy immediately improved vision.

    Symptoms of Astigmatism

    Last updated 1 month ago

Astigmatism refers to a refractive problem with the eye, or the way the eye focuses light. Instead of producing a single focal point, the eye has multiple focal points, interfering with normal vision. The typical symptoms of astigmatism include blurry or distorted vision. Unlike nearsightedness and farsightedness, distance is not a factor in blurry vision resulting from astigmatism; objects that are close by and further away could all become blurred. This often results in eyestrain, or eye fatigue, and frequent headaches. Many people with astigmatism tend to squint in an effort to focus their vision. Fortunately, your ophthalmologist can offer solutions for addressing the symptoms of astigmatism. For instance, you might wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. Talk to an ophthalmologist about whether you’re a candidate for laser eye surgery to correct your astigmatism symptoms.

At Ellis Eye & Laser Medical Center, we offer a range of services to suit each patient’s needs, including LASIK surgery and other laser eye surgeries. Call us at (888) 690-9689 to schedule an appointment at one of our San Jose or San Francisco locations.

Tips for a Successful Recovery Following LASIK Surgery with Ellis Eye & Laser Medical Center

    Last updated 2 months ago

LASIK surgery is a popular option for restoring vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses. This laser eye surgery offers immediate benefits; right after the procedure, most people can see much more clearly. It’s important for patients to remember, however, that the eyes still need plenty of time to heal. Prior to having laser eye surgery, talk to your ophthalmologist about having a safe and speedy recovery. Consider the following tips to get started:

    Transportation
Arrange to have someone else drive you to and from your LASIK surgery appointment. Your ophthalmologist will let you know when you can safely drive again. It’s also a good idea to have a friend or family member stay with you for a couple of days to help you out around your home.

    Eye Care
For the first few days after laser eye surgery, you’ll likely wear an eye patch or shield for protection. Keep this device on at all times—even during sleep. It’s very important to avoid rubbing your treated eye. You should also avoid wearing eye makeup and applying lotion near the eyes. Your ophthalmologist will give you prescription eye drops; follow all instructions carefully and do not use any eye drops or related products that are not recommended by your ophthalmologist.

    Activity Restriction
One of the reasons why LASIK surgery is so popular is that it requires minimal recovery time. However, it’s still important to rest, especially for the first few days. Your ophthalmologist will likely advise you to avoid strenuous activities for at least a week or two. Avoid swimming or using hot tubs for one to two months.

    Follow-Up Evaluation
About 24 to 48 hours after your laser eye surgery, you’ll have a follow-up visit with the ophthalmologist. As your eye heals throughout the next six months, you’ll continue to have regularly scheduled check-ups.

Get the benefits of clear vision without glasses or contact lenses. Call (888) 690-9689 to schedule a consultation for LASIK surgery with Ellis Eye & Laser Medical Center. We have convenient locations in the San Jose and Corte Madera areas.
